Change is Coming
There is a stirring in the Universe that significant change is coming. People are becoming more
anxious and apprehensive than has been known in the past. They are feeling afraid and don’t
understand why or what this “change” means to them, personally or externally.
My goal is to bring some order to the chaos that is happening in our lives today and into the
future. The only constant is change. And we don’t like it. It requires us to get out of
our routine of daily living and do something different. It may mean learning something new,
which means we are required to change how we do, think, feel and speak. It means we must
expand our awareness of more than our own “world” and take a look at how and what is
happening in other areas that we don’t pay attention to.
But this is what life is all about. It is not to be feared, but to be understood. In order to feel
some sense of security and less anxiety and apprehension, we must begin to search for the
order within the chaos. Order always emerges from chaos. That is a natural law.
Finding Order in Chaos
So how do we begin to find order in the chaos of our personal lives and in the world?
OMG! How can I afford this? How am I going to be able to get to work, go on vacation,
get all my routine errands done? On and on we go getting all anxious about the chaos the
price of gas just created in our lives. How are we going to have to change? You see, it’s
not really about the price of gas, it’s about how much internal chaos we create when we
feel “out of control” with what’s going on outside of us and we feel we are being forced to
make changes in our own “world” to adapt. What happens is resistance. We are resisting
having to change.
Resisting Change
What makes us resist? There are lots of reasons we resist change. We get into our routine and
move about our daily lives without having to think about what we are doing or how we are
doing it. We walk around like robots, sleepwalking through our lives. Suddenly, we are
thrust into a situation that forces us to wake up and take a look at what’s happening. We are
then faced with the dilemma of having to THINK our way out of it. We are having to
PROBLEM SOLVE.
What makes problem solving so difficult? Well, lets look back at ancient history. Humans had
to do a lot of problem solving during our initial stages of development. We had to recognize
danger before it got too close. Dangerous animals ruled the world we lived in. We had to learn
to recognize edible plants for poisonous ones. And we had eons to learn this. Once we learned
it, we developed a routine and stuck to it because it was necessary for survival. And we didn’t
deviate from it because our survival depended on it. Our brains created order in the chaos by
hard wiring itself to remember danger in all its forms. And we did it so well that still today we
perceive change as something to avoid.
Then we move into a more civilized world and other people became the danger. People who
wanted to rule and control other people. How did they do that? By threatening us with
consequences if we tried to change. And by creating and exposing us to man-made chaos, such as gas prices, etc. This man-made chaos keeps our old survival brain active and
consequently we live in fear of change.
Survival Mode
We resist change because we still equate it with survival. Change means death. Well, in a way it
does, but not the way it meant for our ancient ancestors. Change now means the death of old,
useless, outmoded behaviors, thoughts and feelings. We are not going to die if we change how
we think or feel or how we behave or speak. But it can feel that way.
That’s where this blog is going. How do we learn to see change as an inevitable part of life and
begin to see it for what it really is: a challenge, an opportunity to perceive life in a different way
besides panic, anxiety, doom and gloom. How many generations have said: “The world’s going
to hell in a handbasket”? Well they must be wrong because in more ways than not. How do I
know this? Because we are still here, stronger, smarter and healthier than any other time in the
history of the world. Yes, there are people out there who continue to create chaos in order to
keep us afraid.
Managing Change
So how do we begin to see order out of all this chaos outside of us that is influencing us in so
many ways? My intention is to introduce you to new ways of thinking about yourself and your
place on this big blue marble. Not the fluff and buff hype that is so popular today, but the deep,
profound ways we can begin to recognize ourselves as the miraculous, innovative, creative
human beings we are. Sometimes it is not easy; it requires effort. But the greatest effort is
overcoming the resistance and fear of change.
Change and growth is a process, not a project. Change is the only constant. Life is a journey,
not a destination. Let’s see if we can adjust and adapt to this challenge of changing and see it as
a wonderful opportunity for self discovery.
